We've been trying to schedule Chris' photo session for over six months. Of course, when we finally pick the day, it ends up being one of the muggiest days of the year! Chris, you were such a trooper! It may have felt like 90 degrees out there, but you'd never know it by looking at you. I had a blast learning about all things hockey and about your favorite team, the Colorado Avalanche! We could not have asked for better weather! It finally felt like Springtime around here!

It was my first time visiting Roanoke, and boy was I surprised! What a great little town with a lot of character! David, thank you so much for being such a trooper and being so willing to try anything. And a big thank you to David's mom, Kelly, for your wonderful assistance. I really appreciated all your help. We've been planning this shoot all summer long, just waiting for fall to come. The weather last night was absolutely perfect. Could not have asked for better weather. What an amazing shoot. I had such a blast! Just look at these kids! Wow!!!

Keith and Angela, here's your sneak peak. I have a lot more to process, but I can already tell you it's going to be very hard to pick a favorite. I LOVE how these are turning out, and hope you do too! They look like they've just stepped out of a magazine! Beautiful kids!

We enjoyed a gorgeous fall evening in Rochester, even though it was a bit chilly (thanks again for the mexican hot cocoa). :) We've known Julie for awhile now, but this was the first time we've met her wonderful family. She and her husband are such doting parents. Their daughter is a very lucky girl to have two amazing people who love her so much.

We had a great time taking these pictures for you. Here's a little sneak peak. I'm already loving how these turned out and hope you do, too.

I spent my birthday, Monday, September 8th, driving around Winona Lake and Pierceton and taking photographs. In Pierceton, the people that own the old train depot recently purchased a single train car that now sits behind the building. I love anything that is old, rustic, and forgotten, so needless to say, I was thrilled to see it.

I love to walk around the park in Winona Lake. It's so calm and peaceful there. They have wonderful benches and chairs that you can sit and read or just take in the view of the lake.

For my birthday, my husband surprised me with flowers. I can't recall the last time I received flowers. They were a beautiful surprise. Unfortunately, they're brownish and wilted now, but at least I have the photos to remember them.

My Grandpa and I went for a little road trip last Wednesday (April 23rd) to New Buffalo, MI and Michigan City, IN.

Since my grandma passed away a little over a year ago, he hasn't traveled much. I told him last week to clear his calendar for Wednesday because we were going on a little road trip. I had an idea of where we were going, but kept it as a surprise for him.

We went to places I had never been before, and places he hadn't seen in 40+ years. I loved listening to all the old stories. It was a great day.

In the beginning...

So, when I first started getting into photography, I focused my studying on nature and landscapes never thinking that I would enjoy portrait photography. I so wanted to capture the beauty of nature and it's surroundings, beautiful sunsets, and so forth...and then I started taking photos of my stepdaughter. In the beginning, she was a willing subject to experiment with while I was getting to know my camera. And then something happened. I was able to capture who she was with a photograph. I realize this sounds corny, but it's true. Since our first "photo shoot", I've been hooked. Now my studying has shifted toward portrait photography.

My stepson spent some time with us over the holidays. It had been a year and a half since he'd been home. He's been living with his mom and stepdad in TN for the past four years. It was great having him home. I was able to get in a mini-photo shoot while he was here.

My First Post

Okay, so I've decided to take the plunge and start a blog to showcase my photography. This is my very first blog. I've never "blogged" before, so this shall be interesting.

How I got into photography...

I started seriously studying all things photography in April 2007. After returning from a trip out west in April, I decided I wanted to learn how to take better vacation pictures. Wanting to get away from the "point and shoot", I was interested in learning more about composition and lighting. I just thought this would be a great hobby, something that I could do for my own enjoyment, never thinking that it might lead to anything.

So after months of rummaging through books at my local library, buying books online, and scouring the web, I decided to purchase my first dSLR, a Canon 30d, a birthday present to myself. I was so excited. Armed with two lenses, I started taking pictures of anything and everything (mainly my stepdaughter, Shelby).

During this time, at the recommendation of an acquaintance, I purchased Photoshop Elements and started to learn about layers and retouching through the help of online tutorials. Once I felt comfortable with that program, I was ready to tackle Photoshop.

I've seen steady improvement with every photo session. I know I still have so much more to learn, and that is what I find most exciting, the challenges. What a great journey this has been so far!
